San Blas

SAN BLAS ISLANDS

The San Blas Islands of Panama is an archipelago of 378 islands of which only 49 are inhabited. They lie off the north coast of the Isthmus, east of the Panama Canal. Home to the Kuna Indians, they are a part of the Comarca Kuna Yala along the Caribbean coast of Panama.

Since 1930 this area is known as the Comarca Kuna Yala, because they have a special self government status from Panama.

San Blas has a very special mixture of ingredients for visitors: the fascinating culture and life style of its inhabitants that can be seen in their charming towns, their clothes and their handcrafts. On the other hand the exceptional beauty of the islands with their unspoiled white sand beaches and surrounded by coral reefs.

San Blas is on the top 10 of Frommers Amazing Central America’s Escapes.
